The carbohydrates and fiber don't seem to add up on the label... How many carbs and how much fiber is in Greentein?

Our label follows the government guidelines, or at least the expert that put it together tells us it does. We make no claims to understand government labeling guidelines, so we had to outsource to people that do. Because insoluble fiber sources are counted as carbohydrates, but you can not digest them, the math to add it together gets odd. Further, the soluble fiber would not do much good if it was digestible, but the carbs from these sources must be counted for reasons we do not understand. We had the reason that we have to claim 6.8 grams of fiber instead of 12.6 explained to us several times, but we still do not understand it to the point where we can explain it. All of the allowable labeling options were unclear and confusing, so we went with the one that made the most sense to us, or more precisely, confused us least. It is easier to explain it without adding it up.

    Greentein contains:
6.8 grams insoluble fiber derived from the green formula, which count as carbohydrates
5.8 grams of soluble fiber from Fibersol-2, which count as carbohydrates
.7grams of carbohydrates from sugars in the green formula

The fiber on the label is listed as a carbohydrate, and so is shown as a total of 8% of the Daily Reference Value. That simply means that each of these fiber sources are 4% of the recommended amount of carbohydrates that you should have each day. The FDA suggests that an adult under the age of 50 should have 25 grams of fiber each day, but we are not going to suggest that the 6.8 grams of insoluble fiber and the 5.8 grams of soluble fiber add up to about half of that. We simply do not have the government math skills to make such a suggestion.

Will Greentein cause any bloating, gas, or other digestion side effects?

Gas in your digestive tract is primarily the by-product of bacteria. The standard American diet, full of foods that our bodies were never intended to consume, unfortunately helps create the mix of bacteria that can produce increased amounts of gas when the best foods, such as leafy green vegetables, are consumed. This effect can lead to people eating even less of the most healthy foods.

Greentein contains green vegetables, fiber, and probiotics. Depending on the bacteria already in your gut, any of these could potentially have an effect of increasing gas until the bacteria in your gut becomes balanced. In a way, if you see a noticeable increase when starting to take Greentein, you get a confirmation that the type and balance of bacteria in your gut may not be optimal. The probiotics in Greentein will help to balance the bacteria in your gut within a week, or so.

Also, there is a LOT of fiber in Greentein. If you are not accustomed to having a lot of fiber in your diet, you may find that a full scoop of Greentein may be too much to start with without becoming “too” regular. This can be avoided by either taking half a scoop twice a day, or simply starting with half a scoop once a day and slowly increasing each day until you are taking a full dose.

While Greentein has powerful nutrients, it is not magic, and can not make up for a diet that too strongly encourages the wrong type of bacteria in the digestive tract. Beyond taking Greentein every day, we would suggest a diet with a minimum of processed carbohydrates (especially enriched flour), plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, and fermented foods such as yogurt and kefir.

I can get protein powder for a lot less. Why does it cost so much?

Greentein is not a simple protein powder. It is a comprehensive product that provides you with 5 servings of greens, probiotics, protein, fiber, resveratrol, calcium citrate, and glutamine, and we believe is priced very much on the modest end. An apples to apples comparison with our competition is hard to do, since there is no other product on the market that we know of like Greentein.

Most greens supplements taste bad. REALLY, HOW does Greentein taste?

Greentein has a pleasant, light flavor. It is similar to sweetened green tea with a hint of berries and a splash of milk when mixed with plain water. Most green vegetable supplements taste so bad that it is nearly impossible to take them. When formulating Greentein, a lot of work went into the green formula to ensure that this would not be the case with the final product. The lead food scientist on the project spent a lot of time on this issue, and identified the specific ingredients that cause the flavor issues with other green supplements. He was able to avoid those ingredients, while finding others that contained the same nutrients with out the offensive flavor. With papaya and pineapple juices added, the end result was a green formula that was much easier to work with.

Of course, we also encourage you to try Greentein mixed with different juices, or in a smoothy. We think that you will find that it adds a surprisingly fresh taste unlike anything else on the market.

Why did you put Fibersol-2 in Greentein rather than something like psyllium husk as a source of fiber?

There are a lot of good options for soluble fiber that we looked at, including psillium husk. Fibersol-2 provides a lot of advantages that we could not ignore. It does not add color, odor, or bad flavor, and easily mixes in liquids. It does not become thick or gummy like psillium husk. We wanted Greentein to mix easily and taste great, so we decided Fibersol-2 was the best choice.

What does 1 Billion Active CFU’s mean?

Active colony-forming units (CFUs) is simply a measure of viable bacteria. The probiotic in Greentein is GanedenBC30, and is a well known trademarked name of the bacillus coagulan strain GBI-30, 6086. Between several hundred million and 2 billion CFUs are recommended by the manufacturer to support healthy immune and digestive systems.
